European intelligence agencies attempted to intercept Russian radio broadcasts, but all they heard was a recurring message: "Brotherhood, Strength, and Fortitude ... in the face of the angry night."

In December 1949, the Red Curtain was breached by numerous Chimeran forces, leading to a swift takeover of continental Europe within two months, with few survivors left. Subsequently, the Chimera tunneled beneath the English Channel and invaded Britain in late 1950. Most of the British military was decimated, with the remnants retreating to scattered bases in northern England.
